Ashley Henry, as one of the UK’s leading jazz & beats performers, brings his live performance to soho for an intimate one off soho show. Following the widespread success of 26-year-old Ashley Henry’s Easter EP, the genre-blurring UK pianist returns in full force with his debut studio album Beautiful Vinyl Hunter, set for release in 6th September on Sony Music.

Offering a journey into the visionary mind of one of the UK’s most creative young talents, the highly anticipated 15-track album draws on a heady brew of influences of jazz, beats, hip-hop, punk and grime, and features collaborations with an impressive collective of innovators including Makaya McCraven, Keyon Harrold, Ben Marc, Luke Flowers, Jaimie Branch, Binker Golding and Joshua Idehen.

Enjoy a unique stripped back performance in this intimate venue as part of Soho.Live Jazz Week. As part of the festival Ashley Henry will also be presenting our Future of Jazz Radio Podcast show.

Cherise Adams-Burnett is blazing a trail as a fiercely talented vocalist and musician, appearing at some of the country’s most prestigious venues and festivals, including the Royal Albert Hall. Now part of Soho.Live Jazz Week, Cherise now provides an intimate stripped back performance at the festivals home in The Piano Bar Soho.

With a passion for soul and neo-soul and a great appreciation for the tradition of jazz vocalists Adams-Burnett’s unique delivery has won plaudits and drawn invitations for high profile collaborations, including earlier this year at the Jazz FM Awards 2019.

The Long & The Short Of It – A Drinkers Guide to Long and Short Whisk(e)y Cocktails

The long and the short of it is an immersive whisky experience with the teams from Yardhead Single Malt Scotch and American Eagle Tennessee Bourbon.

Mix Scotch in long cocktails like your Dad told you not to, and smoke an old fashioned in a glass jar like a hero…what’s not to like.

Your experience lasts approximately 20 minutes, entry is available anytime between 1pm - 6pm on September 11th and September 12th. Simply show your ticket at The Piano Bar Soho (16 Carlisle St.) for entry. One entry per person, per day.

Jazz with Billie Black

Nathan Britton Trio

Soho.Live’s very own Musical Director, Nathan Britton presents his modern spin on classic repertoire from piano legends such as Chopin , Gershwin, Oscar Peterson & Bill Evans.

Nathan is an award-winning classically-trained Jazz pianist and producer, he has been instrumental in curating jams with some of the world’s best jazz musicians when they come to Soho. As a composer and producer, his works have been featured on BBC Radio outlets, Jazz FM and Worldwide FM (to name a few).

Nathan’s trio was born in one of the creative jams at The Piano Bar Soho that also features on Soho.Live’s inaugural LP for this first Jazz Week found at soho.live/label. He is joined by two of London’s top jazz artists: Ollie Hopkins (bass) & Jamie Murray (drums).

Yamaha Music London presents a store drop-in of musical theatre and soul superstar Marisha Wallace. Best known for her starring role as Effie White in Dreamgirls on the West End. Marisha is an accomplished Broadway and West End performer. She has been apart of Broadway and West End musicals such as Book of Mormon, Aladdin, Something Rotten and Dreamgirls. Born and raised in a small town in North Carolina, Wallace has taken her immense talent around the world. She has performed at the Royal Albert Hall, London Palladium, and with international artists such as Seal, James Blunt, Gregory Porter and many more.

Meet Marisha in person, and see her perform inside central London’s oldest and largest music store as part of Soho.Live Jazz Week 2019.

Jo Harrop & The British Standard Time

Velvet-voiced Jo Harrop and pianist/arranger Alex Webb present an evening of British songwriting at its best.  From the jazz-era masters Ray Noble and Eric Maschwitz to music theatre writers like Antony Newley, Leslie Bricusse and Lionel Bart, from the pop giants Lennon & McCartney to Elvis Costello and Amy Winehouse, Harrop and Webb mine a rich seam of material and present it in a cool, contemporary jazz format.

For this special Soho.Live Jazz Week performance expect classics like These Foolish Things, The Very Thought Of You, As Long As He Needs Me, Who Can I Turn To, Almost Blue and Norwegian Wood as well as forgotten gems by John Dankworth and Victor Feldman – along with some carefully-chosen originals and a couple of surprises.

Soho regular Ray Gelato, is a British jazz, swing and jump blues saxophonist, singer and bandleader. He is known as one of the major forces in the revival of swing music

AllMusic noted that "Gelato has been hugely successful, finding a niche and retaining his dominance in it through hard work, good musicianship and a flair for showmanship". Jools Holland meanwhile opined that "He plays what he means, and means what he plays”. 

Come and join Ray in the intimate setting of his favourite Cafe where, he has also penned a song of the same name “My Place”. Be part of a live music video at witness Ray at work alongside your afternoon coffee.

John Hegley 'Luton's superstar, lover of dogs and a proud spectacles wearer brings his unique blend of poetry and musical mayhem to the Spice as part of the celebrations of Soho.Live Jazz Week.’ Accompaniment will come from Chris Dowding on trumpet/flugelhorn, Jim Rattigan on the French horn and Jeff Miller tuba + guest slots from Diego Brown, The Good Fairy & Paul Pace.
